A premium is quoted as one number and assembled from several. There is a rate applied to the coverage, surcharges and discounts applied in sequence, a policy fee that does not scale with anything, an instalment fee on every payment, and in many places a premium tax.

Knowing which is which changes what you can do about it. The rate is set by the carrier, the discounts are yours to claim, and the fees are largely a function of how you choose to pay - which is the part most people never look at.

Why use InsurancePremiumTools

Rate per $1,000, the comparable number

A premium tells you nothing without knowing how much coverage it buys. The effective rate makes two quotes comparable even at different limits.

The real cost of paying monthly

Instalment fees multiply by twelve. The comparison expresses the difference as an implied cost of financing you can weigh against any alternative.

Sequence applied correctly

A 10% surcharge then a 15% discount is not a net 5%. Percentages apply in order, and the order changes the answer.

No sign-up, nothing stored

Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted, and there is no account to create.

How it works

  1. Derive your rate per $1,000 by dividing the premium by the coverage in thousands.
  2. Use the premium calculator to price a different coverage amount at that rate.
  3. Check what your payment schedule is adding with the monthly comparison.
  4. Project both options forward before deciding which quote to accept.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my rate per $1,000?

Divide the annual premium by the coverage amount in thousands. A $1,260 premium on $350,000 of coverage is $3.60 per thousand.

Why does paying monthly cost more?

Carriers charge an instalment fee on each payment and often price the monthly plan from a higher base. Across twelve payments that adds up to several percent of the premium.

Are policy fees refundable?

Frequently not. Many carriers treat them as fully earned when the policy is issued, so they are not returned on cancellation.

Can you tell me what my premium should be?

No. Rating tables are proprietary and filed by jurisdiction. These tools work from the figures on your own quote so you can check and compare them.

Do you collect my details?

No. There is no form that submits anything, no account, and no email requirement.
