Free Conflicts & Risk Tools
Conflicts are missed on spelling, not on judgement
A name matcher that catches punctuation, suffix and spelling variants without sending anything anywhere, plus the procedure checklists that turn a search into a record, and a retention calculator for files that have already closed.

"Hartwell Industries Inc" and "Hartwell Industries, Incorporated" are the same entity, and an exact-match search finds neither from the other. Most missed conflicts are that: a search that ran correctly against a name that was never going to match.
The tools here address the mechanical failures. The matcher normalises names and compares by word overlap and edit distance. The checklists cover collecting the right names in the first place and recording the outcome, because an unrecorded search provides no protection at all.

Why use LegalConflictTools
Nothing leaves your browser
Party names on a prospective matter are among the most sensitive data a firm handles. The entire comparison runs locally - no upload, no server, no storage.
Variants that exact search misses
Punctuation, corporate suffixes, word order and small misspellings are normalised away before comparison, and matches are graded rather than binary.
Procedure that produces a record
What was searched, against what, when, and what was concluded. A search nobody recorded is indistinguishable from a search nobody ran.
Retention decided at closure
The cheapest moment to set a destruction date is when the matter closes, while the file type and applicable period are still obvious.
How it works
- Build the full name list first - former names, trading names, affiliates and the individuals behind corporate parties.
- Run the matcher and review every match, including the possible ones.
- Record what was searched and the conclusion reached on each hit.
- Set the retention date when the matter closes rather than years later.
Frequently asked questions
Are the names I paste sent anywhere?
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser using local JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and closing the tab discards it.
Does no match mean there is no conflict?
No. It means these names do not resemble anything in the list you pasted. Conflicts arise through affiliates, prior representations and information held - none of which a text matcher can see.
Can this replace our conflicts system?
No. It has no database and no record of prior representations. It is a matching aid for a list you supply, to surface candidates for a human review under your own procedure.
How long should closed files be retained?
It depends on jurisdiction, document type, limitation periods and what your engagement letter promised. There is no universal figure, which is why the period is an input rather than an assumption.
Is this legal advice?
No. This website provides general informational and productivity tools and does not provide legal advice or create an attorney-client relationship.
